Donna Lee's Story
After graduating from Florida Atlantic University (Bachelor's in Business Ed., Master's in Guidance & Counseling), I worked for a short time as a guidance counselor at Hollywood Elementary, then off to South Carolina! Finding a job in Business Education was a little difficult back in the 70s, so applied for employment at the local Public Library, and was hired as a very part-time bookkeeper. Worked my way up through Reference Librarian and Cataloguer positions (while still being the bookkeeper) to Business Manager. Left there, and was hired as a site coordinator at a local job-training program for high-school dropouts aged 16 through 21: went to all the local mills, burger places, stores, etc., finding employment opportunities for our students, while teaching them job skills and then monitoring their progress once employed. Standing in front of a chalkboard (no white boards in the 1980s!) made me miss teaching, so went back to college to upgrade my teaching credential to encompass Elementary Education. Got hired as a teacher's assistant (I know! I started from the ground up!) for a year, and that led to teaching grade 6, which I loved!) When I retired from teaching in the public-school system, I was hired at a local Christian private school, where I again taught...Expand for more
grade 6 and computer lab (taught them how to type, and basic applications using Microsoft Word/Publisher/Excel/etc. That was a lot of fun!
Since retirement, I have "reinvented" myself as a (very) small book publisher! I've now produced 21 children's books for ages 0 through 14, including "Royal Mousie (a lullaby)," which is meant for adults to use with the very young to help them go to sleep, and is a gentle story poem featuring a fairy princess, an elfin prince, and the regal little mouse which they ride through the night, visiting different forest sights, until the sandman puts them to sleep. (Included is an audio cassette with vocal AND instrumental tracks! AND the lullaby is now available as a downloadable audio file (after purchase) on both etsy dot com and our website, pitzigil publications dot com. Believe it or not, there are now four authors besides me creating wonderful stories, which we've adapted into children's-book format, AND we've kept five illustrators hard at work, creating illustrations for the books! There's that website, if you're interested--just type the name of my company, PitziGil Publications, into your internet search bar to see (and hear) what we have to offer in children's books, note cards, educational-activity kits, and sheet music!
